Sunday’s were made for relaxing, enjoying time with friends and apparently, island hopping. If you are planning a wedding, honeymoon or summer holiday to Ithaca, be sure to include this as one of your weekend activities… and Kastos is the perfect island to visit.
This tiny island is about 1.5 hours from Ithaca by boat and the first thing you will notice as you approach it is it’s rather quaint windmill. Everything about Kastos is small; from the village to the one room museum that the windmill plays home to. To put it in perspective, the island has a grand total of just 32 permanent residents.
The locals are friendly and the food is good. The port, which I’m told in the summer is always full, has some pretty funky graffiti which had me reminiscing about South Africa. Should you visit, you will be able to enjoy a walk around the islands’ pretty little streets, a tan or a visit to the windmill museum after eating lunch – and with it’s close proximity to Ithaca, it’s a wonderful place for a day trip while exploring the Ionian Sea.
