I grew up in a small town in South Africa where you were expected to wear a white dress on the day you said “I do”. That was just what you did. You may have gotten away with ivory, as my mother did on her wedding day, but any other colour was a ‘no-no’ and the only embellishments that were acceptable where lace or pearls. Sequins?! I think my grandmother would have fallen over if my mother had asked for those… Thank goodness times have changed! And today’s post is all about alternative options with this rather gorgeous, grey Great Gatsby wedding dress inspiration from Coast.
I won’t lie, I’m a boho girl at heart – but I do love a bit of glam and sparkle too. Last year, when I met up with fashion blogger Sylvia Dennis from Sylvia’s Sparkles, in Paris, we had a discussion about the range of options you now have when planning your wedding and in particular when you are planning a city wedding. The sky is truly the limit.
We live in a world where we get to build amazing and interesting lives. There are alternatives to everything. Why not do something a little more alternative on your big day? I’ve covered large weddings, intimate weddings and I would love to cover an elopement – the range of weddings I work on just highlights the fact that we get to do it all completely our own way. Why not wear something that reflects your own style too?!
So when Sylvia arrived for our shoot, wearing this dress, I couldn’t stop staring at all the sequins and sparkle. She had mentioned how this would be the perfect alternative for someone who didn’t want a white dress but wanted something sophisticated and eye-catching instead. And I couldn’t agree more!
