Vasto, Italy | Travel Photography

Last September I had the pleasure of visiting Italy with an actual Italian – my gorgeous friend, Roberta – when we flew over to cover a traditional Italian wedding and ended up exploring the little town of Vasto as well. The wedding, which will be blogged soon, took place in the Puglia region, in southeast Italy. It was filled with dancing, laughter and lots of seafood – but more about that later!

After the wedding, when we put our camera’s down and got into the car, Roberta and I went on a little midnight road trip. Instead of going back to the B&B we had stayed in the for the first few nights, we were going to join her parents who were camping! This for me was extremely exciting as I have loved camping ever since I was very little. It was also a big tick off the Bucket List as I had always wanted to go camping in Italy. After a few wrong turns and almost getting stuck on a rather creepy farm road, we found her parents and were extremely happy to see our beds.

The next morning we woke to find our camp site was close to Vasto – a hilltop town, definitely worth having a look around. With cobbled streets and a medieval centre, the town boasts beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea. Located about 80km from Pescara, it’s an easy drive from the airport and is, like most of the region, fantastically unspoilt.

We spent the afternoon enjoying the views of Vasto, falling in love with it’s gorgeous Italian tiles and ambling along it’s tiny, winding streets (with me stopping every so often to make poor Roberta take a photo while I was in some or other yoga pose). We then finished off the day with a rather delicious gelato.

Vasto is the perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway or mini-moon (for those of you who want a little break before going off on your actual honeymoon). Whether you decide to wander it’s pretty streets, sip coffee in it’s tiny cafe’s or sun yourself on the beach… It’s a great place to run away to, and I will definitely be going back!
