If you’re planning a destination wedding it only seems right to have a wine from the region on your tables if one is available. Cyprus surprised me in that I had no idea that they had wine routes. I felt it was a country full of contrasts; mountains and sea; banana plantations and fields filled with rolled hay bails. It was as odd as it was beautiful in terms of what you could see and find there.
There are various wine routes to explore when you are on the hunt for a Cypriot wine for your wedding. I chose to do wine route 3 which brought me to the Nelion Winery.
The winery is set up on a hill overlooking it’s grape vines. The views are utterly spectacular and I would really encourage you to sit outside and just soak everything in – as it does take a little while to get there.
Aside from wine tasting, they offer a small menu and it would be the perfect stop off point for lunch before tasting the various wines they have to offer and exploring the area further. They have both indoor and outdoor seating (so you will be able to escape the heat) with a beautifully rustic atmosphere, and natural wood finishing’s. You really feel like you have just stepped into someone’s home and can relax and enjoy the whole experience.
And my top tip on wine tasting? Make a day of it and take your camera! The scenery on the drive up is utterly spectacular and the flowers are just gorgeous. You will know if you read my blog often that I have a little thing for flowers… and this wouldn’t be a blog post about Cyprus (where there are beautiful blooms EVERYWHERE) if I didn’t include a few floral shots to brighten your day.
