One of the most fantastic things about working in the wedding industry is the people you get to meet. So when I was approached by Rebecca D’Amato Kobus, editor or Urban Flip Flops and stylist and owner of Glimmer & Threads, about having some portraits done I jumped at the chance. And when she told me to wanted to shoot her portraits at Peggy Porschen, I jumped for joy! It’s literally one of the most pretty and pink places to shoot in all of London.
So after having a quick coffee and catch up (along with a sneaky cup cake) I asked Rebecca to tell me a little bit more about what she does, her beautiful blog and her amazing styling and what services she offers to make your life easier when you’re planning your big day.
How did Urban Flip Flops come about?
I started Urban Flip Flops as a personal blog to keep in touch with friends and family when I moved from DC to Florida to be with my then boyfriend, now husband. I had a lot of “flip flops” of moving from the city life I had in Washington DC to the beach life in FL. Those were the flip flops, which is where the name came in. I was always the one to recommend places to go to dinner, things to do, items on sale, etc. etc. to my girlfriends, so I just started doing that on my blog from afar. Over the next couple of years my blog turned into more of a lifestyle spot with my love of entertaining and profession as an event planner and I started to add in a lot of wedding information, easy party ideas, recipes, cocktails, etc.
How did moving abroad change things for the Blog?
When we moved to London in 2012 I felt like it was another flip flops. From the city to beach and now back to the city. I was engaged and found myself a bit lost in a different country and new city when it came to wedding suppliers. I took that time to really connect with a lot of like minded companies and featured them on my blog and get to know them.
You’ve been nominated at the Blog Awards. How did that come about?
My blog became a lot of wedding inspiration and for two years I was nominated for the best international wedding blogger at the Blog Awards and I was also so flattered to be featured in the Wedding Magazine as a blogger to watch.
I know you work on lots of exciting projects and have launched Glimmer & Threads. What can you tell me about these?
In the past two years I have spent more time creating projects and styling projects with client’s, brands and DIY projects at home. I have opened up my own sequin linen and event/wedding styling and planning business Glimmer & Threads. While Urban Flip Flops allows me to share creative projects with friends and readers such as places to go in London, weekend trips around the city, fashion and event ideas, recipes, cocktail recipes, personal posts.
